Why SideWinder?
Sealed electronics and a patented design with no moving parts ensures the SideWinder magnetic stripe reader is water, dust and humidity proof.
The SideWinder magnetic stripe reader is used extensively in car washes, parking garages and decks, exterior door access, kiosks, outdoor vending equipment and many other extreme environments. Our case is made from machined hard anodized aluminum with not plastic components.
The Sidewinder reader allows for several convenient ways to integrate with your application, including TTL, RS232, USB-HID (Human Interface Device) and USB-KBE (KeyBoard Emulation).
Specifications
We accomplish this one-of-a-kind reader through our ingenious patented curved swipe rail design. Typical magnetic stripe readers have the magnetic head mounted on a spring to provide the pressure against the card when reading the magnetic stripe. Our clever double-arched swipe rail uses the flexing of the card to apply the perfect amount of pressure to magnetic head, which is mounted in the apex of the two arches. This design allows the head to be in a fixed position rather than on a spring. Thus, there are no moving parts, which enables us to completely encase all the electronics with epoxy. The result is a solid metal housing that can withstand a baseball bat and is both dust and waterproof. Another important result of this design is that any nefarious effort to infiltrate the housing will render the reader useless, making it PCI compliant.
